'Love' consists of two 7-metre-high, white sculptures of a boy and a girl. They appear to be looking at each other, but their eyes are closed. Their facial expressions are serene. Surrounding them is a 2-metre-high cloud of mist that we can wander around in. 'They are dreaming,' says Plensa; 'for children, the future is a dream full of promises.' The Spanish artist got his inspiration for the fog fountain when he saw the mist over the Frisian fields early in the morning. 'In Friesland,' he said, 'the water comes from the soil.'

This fountain is part of the 11fountains: 11 fountains in the 11 Frisian cities, designed by 11 artists from 11 different countries. 11fountains is an international art project for Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018, Cultural Capital of Europe, conceived and curated by Anna Tilroe.
