There was once a dream, that Leeuwarden would become not only the capital of Friesland, but of all Europe. That dream was made a reality when Leeuwarden-Fryslan was made the European Capital of Culture for 2018. A huge undertaking followed, developing the city, province and its surroundings. The general guiding principle was of iepen mienskip, or open community. Three statements underpinned the effort:

  • Dare to dream

  • Dare to be different

  • Dare to act

Projects - LF2018

For a year, Leeuwarden was completely saturated with culture, with a huge offering of different events, shows, art pieces, and more. Many excellent and sustainable projects were set up, some of which may continue into 2019. Did you miss the experience?
