The Wadden

The Wadden, also known as the Wadden Sea, is one of the gems of Friesland. This unique nature reserve is not protected by UNESCO for nothing. The extraordinary landscape is home to countless animals and plants and is definitely worth a visit. From Leeuwarden, you can easily take the train to Harlingen. From there, you can cross over to both Terschelling and Vlieland. If you prefer to go to Ameland, you can take the bus to Holwerd.

Friesland cannot be mentioned without talking about the legendary 'tour of tours.' The world-famous Elfstedentocht has unfortunately not been skated for some time now, but luckily there are plenty of other ways to experience a bit of the Elfstedentocht fever. Take the car, bike, walk, or even use public transport and experience this journey for yourself!

Cycling in Friesland - Wooosh!

The Frisian landscape is ideally suited for a beautiful cycling tour. With hundreds of kilometers of lovely bike paths and routes, Friesland is a true paradise for cycling enthusiasts of all levels. Use Leeuwarden as your starting point and discover stunning estates and country houses in various picturesque villages. At the end of the route, you can of course return to Leeuwarden for a cozy drink and a delicious dinner.

For example, take a boat out on the water, visit the beautiful village of Grou, meet the cheerful residents of Aqua Zoo, or admire the national park de Alde Feanen. All of these destinations are easily accessible from our capital by bike, car, or public transport.
