Searching for traces of our ancestors is gaining in popularity. Knowledge about our origin 'wer komme jo wei en fan wa binne jo ien' keeps us very busy. Fortunately, there are many sources that can give you information. But how and where should you start? There is good news for everyone who could use some support in their search for the past: the Historical Travel Agency. This space specially designed for investigators can be visited from February 2018 in the Historical and Literature Center Tresoar in Leeuwarden. For this it is important to bring your own information about your family, preferably names of ancestors who were married before 1933. Also keep in mind that birth certificates are only public after 100 years, marriage certificates after 75 years and death certificates after 50 years!!

Tresoar employees and volunteers are ready to help you dig even further into the past. For example, they can refer you to a regional museum. In short: you will receive all the tools to continue your journey in your past, so grab your chance!

Online Guide

You can make a booklet online from all the information you have found, especially for you and your family. Via the site https://rootsguide.frl/ you can search a number of Tresoar databases, including civil status data on AlleFriezen, but also various map and image information. This can be supplemented with information about Frisian places from Wikipedia. It is also possible to add self-made photos and travel descriptions. In this way, visitors can keep a log of the search for your Frisian roots, as it were.
